"Mama"

Babies.
They grow up so fast.
Teghan is almost 7 months old.
I've yet to even update my blog information to include her.

I got to hear the words almost all Moms long to hear.
Yep.
Today, I got to hear Teghan call me "Mama".

Third Attempt at Breastfeeding

I wanted to breastfeed.
I tried -- really hard.
Teghan latched pretty well for the first several hours.
Then the pain started.
I remembered the pain from feeding Freedom.
The cutting burning pain.
The bloody, cut and cracked nipples.
Cringing every time she cried.
I decided that it wasn't going to work this time.
The nurse at the hospital seemed understanding when I burst into tears because I felt like a failure for not breastfeeding. She gave me a hand pump and encouraged me to try pumping.
I was visited by a lactation consultant.
She cringed when she saw my damaged nipples.
I remember thinking after Freedom that I should have pumped once I became engorged.
I figured I would give it a try this time.
I didn't realize that other people actually made the decision to exclusively pump.
The first week, I used a manual pump.
That was horrible -- but I was able to feed Teghan breast milk.
I finally ended up with a double electric breast pump and I am glad that I decided not to give up.
I went back to work at 3 weeks postpartum.
It has been hard and very time consuming.
It's only been 8 weeks.
I have over 1000 oz of breast milk in the deep freezer.
I still randomly think that I should put her back to the beast.
Maybe try a nipple shield.
Then I remember the pain.

It's a ...

GIRL!

One of my favorite parts of pregnancy.
The anatomy scan!

Baby is doing great.
By the ultrasound technician's "guess" it's a girl.
I hope she is right.
Her wording was "I don't see anything poking out from this pelvic shot -- pretty sure its a girl."

I was really hoping we would get some neat 3D photos.
At 16 weeks, I thought the one they captured was pretty great.

16 weeks

19 weeks

How did the kiddos react?
Freedom was thrilled.
Brye was slightly disappointed. He wanted nothing more than a baby brother. He is starting to come around a little bit though. .

Coming April 2015 ...

Life is fun.
Especially when it throws you as curve-ball.

I totally didn't expect to be pregnant.

I am looking forward to cloth diapering again.

I Would Write more, but I spilled tea on my keyboard.

Back to School Girl Time

Freedom wanted to spend some "girly time" with me today.

Also thought it may be a decent time to try the blogger app.

Creative Way to Take Medicine

Freedom does not take medicine.
We had resorted to giving her antibiotic shots instead of liquids or pills.
She has her third ear infection in less than a year.
We were worried about her always having the strongest available.
Her doctor was too.

This time, we tried for an unflavored liquid.
But it's still thick and creamy.
And has a weird taste that I can't place.

The solution?
Protein shakes.
I usually have to hide them from Freedom.

I take a very tiny amount of my whey protein and mix it with milk and chocolate Nesquik.
In all it's about 2 ounces.
Enough for her to get the medicine in.
Then she gets her own 4 oz protein shake.
